The authority

The Biomarker Guide is the field's defining text. Our founder wrote it.

Biomarker Technologies, Inc. grew from the work of Dr. J.M. (Mike) Moldowan, who pioneered many of the applications of biological marker technology to petroleum exploration during his years on the Chevron biomarker team, then carried that research forward at Stanford University, where he is Professor Emeritus of Geological and Environmental Sciences. His name sits on more than 100 publications and on the two volumes of The Biomarker Guide (Cambridge University Press), the references the industry turns to. When your interpretation has to hold up, this is the lab behind the data.

What we analyze

A complete analytical laboratory for organic geochemistry.

From routine screens to proprietary methods, run by people who developed many of them. Exploration and development, source to reservoir.

01

Asphaltene Analysis

Quantitative SARA, hydrous pyrolysis of isolated asphaltenes, and proprietary follow-on analyses.

02

Compound Specific Isotope Analysis

CSIA by GC-IRMS across alkanes, diamondoids, biomarkers, isoprenoids and aromatics.

03

Diamondoids

Diamondoid quantitation and CSIA for maturity, cracking and mixing assessment.

04

GC, GC-MS, GC-MS-MS

Gas chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry for full biomarker characterization.

05

Source Rock Analysis

Rock-Eval 6, TOC, percent carbonate, and carbon isotopes on kerogen, bitumen and coal.

06

Sample Preparation & Training

Sample prep, other special analyses, and workshops, courses and hands-on training.

Why it matters

Decisions worth millions ride on a single interpretation.

A misread source, an over-estimated maturity, a missed charge: in exploration and development, geochemistry is where the expensive mistakes are caught or made.

Our data is run and interpreted by scientists who built the methods. That is the difference between a number and an answer you can stake a program on.
